Myth 1: Online education is expensive
Fact: Actually, an online education tends to be less expensive than comparable traditional private schools. At Brookshire, your books and study materials are included in the tuition fees and most of our full semester or full year curriculum also includes unlimited tutoring.
Myth 2: Online courses aren't rigorous
Fact: Online courses are just as rigorous as ones taught in traditional schools. These standards are maintained through accreditation boards whose job it is to validate the quality of a school's curriculum.
Brookshire International Academy is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Legal Support of Alternative Schools (NALSAS) and is a member of the National Coalition of Alternative Schools. NALSAS has been providing accreditation since 1973.
We are also completing the regional accreditation process with AdvancED. AdvanceEd represents 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 65 countries worldwide, educating 15 million students.
Myth 3: Online schools limit social interaction
Fact: The reality is that there is actually more opportunity for direct interaction between students and faculty in an online setting. When you consider many of the budget cuts going on these days, student to teacher ratios are probably going to continue to get higher. Taking online classes allows students the flexibility to study on their schedule enabling them to take part in many more extracurricular activities than they might in a traditional school setting.
Myth 4: Online school curriculum is too restrictive
Fact: Actually online schools tend to provide a broader course curriculum than traditional schools. For example, Brookshire offers a full complement of Advanced Placement courses unavailable in traditional schools which may also restrict registration due to the few number of slots available. Brookshire also offers a number of Innovation Academies to further stoke the interest and desire to learn in our students.
